The American acting icon of the 80s, Molly Ringwald, is coming to East Central University for 鈥淎n Evening with Molly Ringwald.鈥
On April 7, 2016, she will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre at the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
The actress, best known for her roles in 80s classics, now entertains her fans off the big screen. She will sing classical jazz songs she has loved for years, songs which have meaningful lyrics and messages to her. Ringwald has been singing since well before she was America鈥檚 80s acting icon or became a Golden Globe nominated actress as her father was a jazz musician.
Ringwald recorded 鈥淓xcept Sometimes鈥 with Peter Smith (who also produced the album) on piano, Clayton Cameron on drums, Allen Mezquida on alto saxophone and Trevor Ware on bass. Together, they put a new spin on such jazz and musical standards as 鈥淭he Very Thought of You,鈥 鈥淚 Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes),鈥 鈥淚鈥檒l Take Romance,鈥 鈥淪ooner or Later鈥 and 鈥淲here Is Love.鈥
Ringwald is an actress of the iconic 1980s John Hughes movie hits, 鈥淭he Breakfast Club,鈥 鈥淪ixteen Candles鈥 and 鈥淧retty in Pink.鈥 She was also cast in Paul Mazursky鈥檚 film 鈥淭empest鈥 at the age of 13.
Her performance as Miranda, the daughter of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands, earned her a Golden Globe nomination and she went on to star in numerous films, including 鈥淭he Pick-Up Artist,鈥 鈥淔or Keeps,鈥 鈥淔resh Horses,鈥 鈥淏etsy鈥檚 Wedding,鈥 Cindy Sherman鈥檚 鈥淥ffice Killer,鈥 Billy Bob Thornton鈥檚 short film 鈥淪ome Folks Call It a Sling Blade,鈥 and Jean-Luc Godard鈥檚 鈥淜ing Lear.鈥
