East Central University alumnus James Gaar, who has a passion for painting and appreciation for abstract expressionism, will have an exhibit from Feb. 16-March 13 at 成人B站鈥檚 Pogue Art Gallery.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays.
Gaar earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree from 成人B站 in 1966 and later picked up his graduate degree in art education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1976.
He has produced eye-catching art for over 50 years, applying his skills in a wide-range of endeavors from fine art to newspaper publishing, custom jewelry design and graphic design. However, his primary interest is painting.
While at 成人B站, Garr studied with Kenneth Campbell and Dee J. Lafon and eventually developed his own style of photorealism. His latest paintings take on more of a mystical feel, which opens a wide new range of subject matter that he plans to explore fully.
With his appreciation for abstract expressionism, it allows Gaar to work with the basics of composition, line, color and texture.
Among Gaar鈥檚 professional experience is being assistant director of editorial art for The Oklahoman.
