You鈥檝e read the book. You鈥檝e seen the movie. Now come out and see 鈥渟ome pig鈥� in person! East Central University presents Charlotte鈥檚 Web at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, performed by Theatreworks USA, in the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
E.B. White鈥檚 loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray
spider named Charlotte comes to life in 鈥淐harlotte鈥檚 Web.鈥� Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid
winding up in the slaughterhouse. Enter Charlotte, a fine writer and a true friend, who assures Wilbur she will save him. Charlotte hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman 鈥� she will create a
鈥渕iracle.鈥� Spinning the words 鈥淪ome Pig鈥� in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever.
This treasured tale, featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery,
selfless love and the true meaning of friendship.
鈥淐harlotte鈥檚 Web鈥� is a play by Joseph Robinette based on the Newbery Medal-winning book by E.B. White with an incidental music score by Jeffrey Lunden. The scenic design is by James D. Sandefur, and the costumes are by Anne-Marie Wright. This 60-minute play is recommended for audiences age 5 and up.
Theatreworks USA began touring Charlotte鈥檚 Web in 1993 and it鈥檚 been one of their most popular productions since. Theatreworks USA is America's largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre for young and family audiences.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and can be purchased online at www.ecok.edu/FineArts or by calling 580-559-5751. They can also be purchased at the box office located in the David A. and Alma R. Lockmiller Lobby, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday or one hour before showtime, depending on ticket availability.
