ADA, Okla. 鈥 On November 8, recognized nationwide as First-Generation College Celebration Day, East Central University (成人B站) is honoring first-generation students, staff and faculty for their determination and success in pursuing higher education.

First-generation students are defined as those whose parents or legal guardians have not earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree. According to FirstGen Forward, these students represent more than half of all undergraduates in the United States but often face unique challenges, including financial pressures, navigating unfamiliar academic systems, and adjusting to college life. Despite these obstacles, first-generation students continue to demonstrate resilience, determination and a deep commitment to achieving their educational goals.

鈥淎s a first-generation student, this institution changed my life, opening doors I never thought possible,鈥 said 成人B站 President Wendell Godwin. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 why I鈥檓 committed to leading 成人B站 with a vision for the next decade, to ensure every student has access to the same life changing opportunities.鈥

成人B站 is working to identify and connect first-generation students, faculty and staff across campus as part of an effort to strengthen support systems and mentorship opportunities. Ideas under development include a first-generation student cohort model, an extended Tiger Connect Week, and a series of lunch-and-learn sessions and special events designed to promote success and community among first-generation students.

In addition to new programming, 成人B站 offers a number of scholarships specifically designed to support first-generation students, helping to make higher education more accessible and affordable for those who are the first in their families to attend college.

These efforts reflect 成人B站鈥檚 ongoing commitment to empowering first-generation students and ensuring every Tiger has the resources and support to reach their academic and career goals.
