ADA, Okla. 鈥 East Central University student Nathan Chronister has been selected as the 2026 Brad Henry International Scholar.

The scholarship provides Oklahoma regional university students the opportunity to travel and study abroad for one semester at Swansea University in Wales, United Kingdom.

鈥淭his is my first time out of the country, I haven鈥檛 even been on a plane before,鈥 said Chronister. 鈥淭his is my first time for a lot of things.鈥

A native of Pauls Valley, Okla., Chronister is currently a senior at 成人B站. An Accounting major who has completed the majority of his major courses, he plans to broaden his scope of study in Wales with unique classes not found at home.

鈥淚鈥檓 taking British History: the Enlightenment era, Welsh History and a classics course on myths and society in Greek times,鈥 said Chronister.

鈥淗e has chosen the path of cultural enrichment, which is very important in the modern world,鈥 said Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, 成人B站鈥檚 Director of Global Education. 鈥淚t鈥檚 important to understand perspectives from different people and different nations.鈥

Beyond academic opportunities, experiencing different cultures and societies was a factor in Chronister鈥檚 decision to apply for the scholarship.

鈥淚 get to see how a new government works, how their currency flows and what everyday life is like for them,鈥 he said.

Chronister prepared for the experience by speaking with former Brad Henry scholars, including 成人B站 student Carson Dill, as well as Welsh students currently attending Swansea University.

When asked what he looks forward to most outside of the educational opportunities, Chronister listed several historic destinations he plans to visit.

鈥淚鈥檒l be taking weekend trips to London, and I鈥檓 going to take trips to Paris and Ireland. I鈥檓 also planning a trip to Scotland,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 really into golf, and golf was created in Scotland. That鈥檚 where St. Andrews is, the oldest golf course in the world.鈥

Chronister鈥檚 13-hour flight departed Monday, Jan. 19. Classes at Swansea University begin Jan. 26.

Students selected for the Brad Henry International Scholar Program, valued at approximately $12,000, must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and demonstrate strong academic qualifications, writing and communication skills, exemplary character, and leadership, maturity and judgment.
