ADA 鈥 Ten students from East Central University鈥檚 Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society have been selected to travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in the 鈥淒.C. Internship Experience鈥, Feb. 12-16, 2014.

鈥湷扇薆站鈥檚 top students can compete anywhere.  The D.C. trip shows students the wide world of legal and political careers to which they may aspire,鈥 said Dr. Christine Pappas, department coordinator and professor in 成人B站鈥檚 Political Science and Legal Studies Department.

The travelers are: Andrew Weiss, Paoli; Tyler Davis, Wewoka; Anthony Dickenson, Davis; Coty Dildine, Ada; Lacy Phelps, Sulphur; Kaylin Cullum, Wetumka; Koral Heinzman, Holdenville; Jaysa Hutchings, Wilson; Meagon Eagon, Greenville, S.C.; and Tiffany Postoak, Ada.

During the trip, students will tour the White House, Capitol, and U.S. Supreme Court building.  They will also intern for a day with a member of the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation.  Finally, they will attend the Pi Sigma Alpha National Undergraduate Research Conference where undergraduates from across the country will present their research.

Two 成人B站 students - Dildine and Cullum - have applied to present their work as well.

All 10 students are interested in attending law school.  To learn more about their career options, three mentoring dinners are planned with attorneys working in the D.C. area.  Additionally, a tour of Georgetown Law School is scheduled.

The trip costs $8,000.  Donors to date include the 成人B站 Alumni Association and Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society.

Donations to the trip are tax deductible.  Checks should be made to the 成人B站 Foundation, Inc. and earmarked for the PSLS Development Fund.

鈥淧roviding experiences like this is critical for the education of our students.  It鈥檚 one of the things we can do at 成人B站 because we are so student-centered.  We have received much financial support in the past and I want our donors to know how much we appreciate them,鈥 said Pappas.

A silent auction is scheduled for Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bill S. Cole University Center on 成人B站鈥檚 campus.  Over 70 items have been donated from local businesses.  A bake sale, book sale, and rummage sale will be held concurrently.  For more information about the auction or to donate an item, please contact Pappas at 559-5640 or cpappas@ecok.edu.

鈥淚鈥檝e never been to D.C.  This will be a good opportunity. I鈥檓 especially looking forward to visiting Georgetown Law School because there is no way I could do a campus visit otherwise,鈥 said Cullum.
